A.Establishment of Shelter for Aged/Destitute Women:
No shelter other than funded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment present in Ongole- (One center with 50 inmates)
Innumerable number of aged needs care and support besides shelter
INTERVENTION: Establishment of shelter-cum-care & support center in Ongole urban limits.

B.ORPHANAGE AND EDUCATION FACILITY FOR ORPHANS, SEMI ORPHANS & GIRL CHILDREN:

Existing 3 orphanages could not center to the needs of the ever increasing demand for care and support

INTERVENTIONS : Establishment of shelter for orphans, semi orphans and linking to a local school for education

C. SUPPORT FOR PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED GIRLS/WOMEN

•2 to 3 % of the general population of the physically challenged

Description of Activities under implementation.
REHABILITATI-ON PROGRAM	SNIRD is implementing “Tsunami Rehabilitation Program” in marine fisherfolk villages and Excluded Communities-Yenadhi Hamlets of Kothapatnam and Ulavapadu mandals of Prakasam District and Kavali, T.P.Gudur and Indukurpet Mandals of Nellore District with the support of ACTION AID INDIA, CHRISTIAN AID, PREPARE-NOVIB, DKA, OXFAM GB, DKH and CARE. Focused activities are livelihood support, construction of shelter, promotion of Thrift & Credit Societies, infrastructure development on water and sanitation, etc
TRADITIONAL FISHWORKERS COLLECTIVISA- TION PROGRAM IN ANDHRA PRADESH.	The project aims at Collectivisation of traditional fish-workers through promotion of Community Based Organisations and strengthening of their federations at macro level. Ensuring the participation of CBOs and communities in socio economic development initiatives in activities that include disaster management, protection and promotion of coastal eco system, health and education, agriculture development and capacity building with the focus on gender and development. The project covers all the coastal villages of Prakasam and Nellore Districts.
THRIFT & CREDIT	SNIRD is implementing Thrift & Credit Program in Kothapatnam, Ulavapadu and Dornala Mandals of Prakasam District and Kavali, T.P.Gudur and Vidavalur Mandals of Nellore District. The rationale behind the programme is to provide a safety net for the vulnerable sections of the women against exploitation of the local moneylenders.
SOIL & MOISTURE CONSERVATION PRACTICES	Soil and Moisture Conservation techniques like formation/desiltation of percolation tank, farm ponds, Nalla-bunds, Contour Trenches, Contour/Field Bunds, etc. in Dornala, Ponnaluru, Kanigiri, V.V.Palem and Lingasamudram mandals. And this programme is supported by APRLP – DPAP and I.T.C- I.L.T.D., Division, Kolkata.
MOTHER NGO – RCH	SNIRD has been identified as Mother NGO by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to implement RCH programme in Nellore and Prakasam Districts of Andhra Pradesh. SNIRD is supporting 8 Field Level NGOs in these districts for the implementation of Reproductive and Child Health Programme.
CHILD LABOUR SCHOOL	SNIRD has established Special School for Child Labour Children at Zeonpuram of Kavali Mandal. 50 Child Labour children are attending the classes. The programme was sanctioned in the month of August, 1999 by District Rural Development Agency, Nellore under NCLP Programme through the Ministry of Labour.
URBAN HELATH CENTRE	Department of Medical and Health, Nellore has sanctioned Urban Health Centre at Kavali in the month of June 2000. And this programme could provide health services to 18000 slum population.
DISASTER MANAGEMENT	Disaster Mitigation Programme is implementing in the mandals of Kothapatnam, Ulavapadu of Prakasam district, Kavali, T.P.Gudur, Vidavalur and Indukurpet Mandals of Nellore District. And this programme enables the community to prepare plans for mitigating the effects of natural calamities. SNIRD is training the community task force teams in the coastal villages on emergency medical care, evacuation, rescue, and relief. Relief and Rehabilitation programs were undertaken with the support CARE, IGSSS, HIVOS, CRS, Action Aid India, Christian Aid, CEC, PREPARE, Oxfam GB. Bio-shield promotion is taken in the coastal villages of Kothapatnam, Ulavapadu, Indukurpet and Kavali Mandals.
SHELTER FOR EXCLUDED	SNIRD has taken up construction of houses for the excluded communities with the support of DKH, ACTION AID and CHRISTIAN AID with the matching support from Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.
INDIAN SYSTEMS OF MEDICINE & HOMOEOPATHY	SNIRD has been identified as the Support NGO by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, G.O.I., to implement IEC Activities of Indian System of Medicine programme in Prakasam District of Andhra Pradesh. SNIRD is supporting 2 Field Level NGOs for the implementation of IEC activities of Indian System of Medicines & Homeopathy Programme. This program is to create awareness on Indian Systems of Medicine in rural areas.
CAPACITY BUILDING	SNIRD is conducting the training programs on P.R.A., Health, Disaster Management, Micro Finance, Reproductive & Child Health, AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha & Homoeopathy) Natural Resource Management, Community Organisation, Water Management & Sanitation, Coastal Eco System, Gender & Development and Livelihoods etc to the CBOs, NGOs, and Govt. Departments.
A.P RURAL LIVELIHOOD & WATERSHED DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM	SNIRD is implementing the Andhra Pradesh Rural Livelihood Program and Watershed Development Programs in Dornala Mandal of Prakasam District with the financial support of District Water Management Agency, Prakasam District. And this program enables the Self Help Groups federating and taking up the livelihood programs and building water harvesting structures.
STUDY / RESEARCH / PUBLICATIONS	SNIRD has published 10 publications namely “Today’s Children - Tomorrow’s World”; Mangroves-Nature’s Pride and people’s Envy, Pattapu Community” ; “Palli Community”; A hand book on PRA (Telugu); Manual on Reproductive & Child Health (Telugu) Manual on Non-formal Education (Telugu); Study on Flora and Fauna of Nallamala Forest; Study on Chenchus-Primitive Tribes of Nallamala Forest and Study on Yenadhis of Prakasam District.
